It’s the Kolkata International Micro Film Festival (KIMFF), from the city of joy.

Drawing inspiration from the masters of Bengali Cinema - Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak, Mrinal Sen, stalwarts of the film society movement, we aim to recognize divergent and creative talents all around the world.

But also a question most independent filmmakers ask as they browse and filter through hundreds, if not thousands, of film festivals online — what distinguishes our film festival from the others?

We have set out to recognize the best of independent short films and micro films worldwide, and do so by taking into account the entire spectrum of artistic incorporation in any given project. From performances to cinematography; editing to sound design, our Jury is tasked with assessing each film based on an overall cohesiveness as it relates to storytelling. In addition, KIMFF shines a significant amount of light on screenwriting through its Best Cine Writer Awards programme with quarterly and annual competitions in feature and short formats.

KIMFF is well familiar with and understand the complete cycle of, and the challenges of, professional filmmaking. The method is always complicated and unforgiving, from the perils of funding to the delivery of any given job. We understand that a film or screenplay can take a short lifetime to complete, and whether or not any given work is selected at Kolkata International Micro Film Festival, creative minds are encouraged to keep pressing forward!
